FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It is commonly acknowledged that the fundamental difference between hay and haylage is the way it is produced. However, the subsequent pros and cons of feeding either are wholly dependent on the quality and choice of grasses used to make it.
Made from prime, first cut Italian and Perennial Rye Grasses, Rowan Lodge Farm’s quality equine haylage provides numerous unrivalled benefits.
More Nutrient Dense and Highly Digestible – providing a higher feed value, resulting in a reduced reliance on additional hard feed, making it cost effective.
Contrary to popular belief, haylage is tends to be lower in sugar than hay, and contains more protein without bulk feeding.
Highly Palatable - pleasing the fussiest of eaters.
Dust Free - an excellent choice for horses with a compromised respiratory system or those regularly stabled.
How long a bale will remain fresh for after opening depends highly on temperature and the number of equines being fed. Rowan Lodge Farm's small bales contain sufficient haylage to feed an average horse for 2-3 days and 4-5 days for ponies. Our large round and small bales should ideally be cinsumed within 7-10 days of opening.
One of the main benefits of wrapped haylage is that it can be stored outside until required.
We put great care into storing our bales, something we encourage all of our clients to continue at home.
